Heal Trauma, Depression & Anxiety
Most of the unwanted symptoms people experience can be traced back to unprocessed trauma. I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help those who suffer from traumatic experiences, anxiety, and depression to heal from these wounds. There is truly no reason to continue suffering from the effects of trauma when healing can be achieved with EMDR treatment.
Renew Emotional Connection
One of my favorite moments in work with couples happens when one, or both, realize that we will not be looking for the “bad guy”! There is no "bad guy". In Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, the “bad guy” is the negative pattern that couples get caught in that spins them apart. This negative cycle leaves both people feeling lonely and hurt, saying to themselves “Here we go again!” Couples often have the same fight over and over, and never seem to be able to resolve the problem. Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy enables couples to identify the negative cycle that takes over and gets in the way of feeling safe and connected each other. This approach is evidence based, and follow up studies have shown that couples not only get better in therapy, but their relationships continue to improve even after therapy has been completed.
Help From an Ancient Tradition
The choice of a counselor is very personal. You are likely looking for someone who is properly trained to be effective in helping you to achieve your goals for counseling, and also someone that you can feel comfortable with and trust. You may want a counselor whose values and faith are aligned with yours, or one who brings an entirely different perspective to you. In order to make an informed choice it is helpful to know your counselor's world view.
My world view is from the perspective of 30 years of sobriety based on 12-step spirituality that ultimately led to a renewed faith in Catholic Christianity.
